Discover the Natural Wonders of Eastpoint
Our quaint town is not just a hub of community and culture; it's also a gateway to some of the most stunning natural landscapes Florida offers, including the Apalachicola River, Apalachicola Bay, and the Gulf of America.
Apalachicola Bay
A jewel in the crown of the Forgotten Coast, the bay is renowned for its marine life. The calm waters and gentle breezes make it ideal for boating, fishing, or exploring the small, uninhabited islands that dot its expanse.
Apalachicola River
This majestic river is not just a source of life and ecology; it's a living, breathing spectacle of nature. Meandering through the lush landscapes, it offers serene views and is a haven for fishing, kayaking, and simply soaking in the tranquility of nature.
Tate's Hell State Forest
Just a short drive from Eastpoint, Tate’s Hell State Forest is a wild 202,000‑acre expanse of pine forests, wetlands, prairies, and swamps that play a vital role in feeding freshwater into Apalachicola Bay and beyond. Known for its rugged terrain and intriguing name—legend says the homesteader Cebe Tate got hopelessly lost here and exclaimed he was coming “from Hell”—the forest is as historically rich as it is ecologically important. Within this remarkable forest lies the Ralph G. Kendrick Dwarf Cypress Boardwalk, a short but unforgettable 0.3‑mile trail loop that leads to a raised observation tower overlooking a bowl of ancient dwarf bald cypress. These centuries‑old trees remain oddly small—typically under 15 feet—due to poor clay soils akin to bonsai conditions. The boardwalk’s tower provides panoramic views, while interpretive panels help paint a vivid picture of this unique habitat.
Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve
A special highlight of our region is the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve. This protected area is a testament to our commitment to preserving and understanding the delicate balance of our coastal ecosystems.
Don't miss the Nature Center at the Reserve, which is open to the public. It's an educational and inspiring experience, offering interactive exhibits, walking trails, and educational programs. It’s a place where children and adults alike can immerse themselves in the wonders of our coastal environment.
In Eastpoint, we're not just surrounded by nature; we're a part of it. We invite you to explore, enjoy, and cherish these natural treasures that make our town truly special.
